CLASSIFICATION OF TRAINING FOR

REFRESHER MEDICAL FIRST AID

STCW CODE A-VI/4-1

General Understanding

These courses are designed for the Seafarer that are already in possession of a VALID certificate that is about to expire. Certificates that have already expired are NOT VALID and the person will have to repeat the entire course again.

Aims

This course aims to provide the training for learners to provide medical first aid on board ship, in accordance with Section A-VI/4 of the STCW Code.

Objectives

This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A – VI/4, Table A-VI/4-1. On meeting the minimum standards of competence in medical first aid, a learner will be competent to apply immediate first aid in the event of an accident or illness on board.

Entry Standards

There are no entry requirements, the course is designed for all seafarers in the maritime industry.

Course Certificate

On successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a document may be issued certifying that the holder has met the standards of competence specified in Table A-VI/4-1 of the STCW Code.
