CLASSIFICATION OF TRAINING FOR

REFRESHER PERSONAL SAFETY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

STCW CODE A-VI/1-4

General Understanding

These courses are designed for the Seafarer that are already in possession of a VALID certificate that is about to expire. Certificates that have already expired are NOT VALID and the person will have to repeat the entire course again.

Aims

This model course aims to provide the training for learners to provide personal safety and social responsibility on board ship, in accordance with Section A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code.

Objectives

This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A – VI/1, Table A-VI/1-4. On meeting the minimum standards of competence in personal safety and social responsibility, a learner will have the knowledge and skills to work to fit into the safety systems of the vessel and company. They will be sufficiently familiar with these systems and will also be aware of where to access additional information to broaden this basic knowledge.

Entry Standards

This course is designed to equip the itinerant first time seafarer with the necessary skills and knowledge to fit into the safety systems of the vessel and company. They will be sufficiently familiar with these systems and will also be aware of where to access additional information to broaden this basic knowledge

Course Certificate

On successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a document may be issued certifying that the holder has met the standards of competence specified in Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code.
