SAFETY FAMILIARIZATION TRAINING
STCW CODE A-VI/1
Aims
This course is designed to equip the itinerant first time seafarer with the necessary skills and knowledge to fit into the safety systems of the vessel and company. They will be sufficiently familiar with these systems and will also be aware of where to access additional information to broaden these basic skills
Objectives
This syllabus covers the requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter VI, Section A – VI/1, Table A-VI/1. On meeting the minimum standards of competence for this course, a learner will have the knowledge and skills to work within a shipboard team. He or she will understand the basic instructions and be sufficiently aware of his or her roles in order to contribute to any type of emergency that may occur onboard at any time.
Entry Standards

Course Certificate
On successful completion of the course and demonstration of competence, a document may be issued certifying that the holder has met the standards of competence specified in Table A-VI/1 of the STCW Code.
