FIRE FIGHTING AND FIRE PREVENTION

Scope of Training Course
The course is open to all seafarers and prospective seafarers and should be completed prior to employment on a sea-going vessel.
The emphasis of this course is to produce sea-going personnel who are properly trained in terms of the International Standards and Certification for Watchkeepers (STCW). The training programme, MARINE FIRE FIGHTING, is accredited by SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) and its emphasis is to ensure Safety of Lives at Sea. (SOLAS).
The course aims to provide the training for candidates in firefighting and fire prevention in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Code, according to the syllabus set out in Table A-VI/1 – 2 and the SAMSA code.
Objectives of the Training Course
At the end of this training course, all learners should be able to demonstrate competence in:
- Minimizing the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire.
- Fighting and extinguishing fires.
On meeting the minimum standard of competence in fire prevention and firefighting, the learner will be competent to take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and of the vessel and to use fire appliances correctly and effectively.
